Brads Blog:

January 3 , 2008
All is well in the new year, and I hope the same for you all as well. The rush of killing that big boy is yet to fade. I interview with a writer for a magazine article the other day, and was able to relive it telling the story again! For Christmas my wife bought me a Thompson Center Pro Hunter! I am really excited, and we are going to go test it this weekend during the Kansas doe season. Stay tuned for a report!

I have been terrible updating this blog, sorry if you have been trying to follow our season. All year Terra, my wife, has been hunting a GIANT Oklahoma buck, and we have kept it hush hush. Friday night the 14th, I killed the buck! Terra couldn't hunt and told me to go freeze in the rain, so I did and was rewarded with a HUGE typical whitetail. This deer has been on the trail cameras since July, and we have over 1,000 images of this buck. We have nicknamed this deer, Terra's Deer, and now its mine! More info to follow, our initial measurements are around 181 inches, and he weighed a whopping 199 pounds!

I hunted all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Again, hot and windy. The conditions could be better for sure. I did check a trailcam in a new area and have a really nice buck coming in daily, but he is nocturnal still. I did observe a little buck checking a doe here and there this weekend. It wont be long. Stay tuned for an update in a week or so.

Where to start! It has been a busy couple weeks since the last update. Jesse Morehead and his cameraman Mark were in town Oct 1-4, Terra and I hunted hard for 3 days here in Oklahoma. I must admit, the pressure of filming a shooter got to me, and I missed a huge buck opening night. I shot right in front of this buck, that was a big 8 around 140". Terra meanwhile was hunting while Jesse filmed her, and a trespasser walks in talking on his cell phone about the time the deer started to move! The 2nd and 3rd were fairly slow, but the weather wasn't helpful either, it was in the 90's every day. I packed up and headed to Kansas on the 5th. Friday night I hunted in "Ginger's stand", while Jesse hunted "the ridge". We didn't see any bucks, just does. Jesse and crew packed up and headed to Texas, while I stayed in Kansas. Saturday night I did see a nice 8 point in range, but he is just too young, another year, and he could be a bruiser. Stay tuned for more updates as the season rolls on.

Just a quick update, Realtree Pro-Staffer Ginger Morehead tagged out on our farm the second night of early muzzleloader season! She shot a really nice 140" 9 pointer with the Thompson Center Muzzleloader. Looks like we are off to a great start this year!

This is the first entry to the ksdeerhunting.com blog. I pulled my Cuddeback No Flash from my new property last night. I only hung it for 2 weeks. Was I suprised to see what I saw!!! There are 3 real nice shooters in the area, and they are hanging around even with construction and traffic. I am very excited about these deer, and hopefully Terra will be able to tag out on opening day. I am headed to Kansas tonight to work on treestands, foodplots, and hang cameras, stay tuned next week for another update. Here are a couple photos in the meantime!
